Spring Kitchen Update

The Life Skills Programme
Our own TBC Boys have just completed their forklift training and are ready to take the assessment for the license.

Amongst other kitchen skills, the boys are now competent at handling a chef’s knife – safely growing in confidence the more they practice. A valuable skill the boys are developing is how to taste, understanding and following the stages of tasting and then knowing how to adjust the taste of a dish accurately.

They have also learnt how to use builders tools such as a drop saw, skill saw, drill and impact driver. Skills that have come in handy for building garden beds and helping out with building a garden shed.

These experiences are helping the boys work better as a team while they’re improving their individual skills.

The Volunteer Programme
Kitchen volunteers have grown in number over the last few months. They have been busy producing many community meals including nutritious vegetable packed soups.

Other initiatives
Under the Stars, who support the homeless and needy, did a successful cook-up in the kitchen, supported by our Chef James.
