Winter saw a huge amount of volunteer hours put into numerous projects including gardens – with lots of yuccas! – rubbish removal and moves. While it always seemed to be raining, we didn’t have a single cancelled project which was amazing. So on our ‘project days’, the sun was either shining or it was dry rain (or dry enough rain 😊).
It is always a privilege to be able to help in a small way in people’s lives to make everyday living more manageable and create a more positive outlook. One client said that they would “Never forget Good Neighbour for helping us. You guys are wonderful”. From a social worker working with another lady we received the following message: “Hi Fleur, thank you so much to the volunteers that went in and helped. She is so grateful, and I can see how helpful this has been for her to take the next step in her journey. Thanks to Good Neighbour and the team for the difference you make in the community.”
Last week also saw the sad farewell to Rick. Rick has been working with Projects and Firewood for Good Neighbour for close to two years and has been amazing in this role, but new ventures have seen him move on and work with his skill set in Agriculture/Business/Farming. We did however give him a good send off dressing him up like a Ken doll which he wore throughout dinner and then off to watch Barbie the movie. We will miss him, but wish him all the best with his new adventures.
